GuardLogic
Dan is the CEO and co-founder of GuardLogic, an analytics-based physical security company where he focuses on vision, growth, and culture. In 2017 Dan co-founded Aegis Security and Investigations with Marcus Sell. Eventually growth resulted in rebranding to GuardLogic. The vision for GuardLogic is to change the reputation of security. GuardLogic has been recognized for three consecutive years on the Inc. 5000 Fastest Growing Private Companies list. The journey from two employees to over 250 employees while serving in the KY National Guard and working full-time as a police officer has provided tremendous personal and professional growth for Dan.
Military Career
Daniel Truex was born in July of 1978 and grew up in Louisville KY beginning his career by enlisting in the Marine Corps in August of 1997. Dan served as an infantryman deploying twice (non-combat) to various locations throughout Asia and rising to the rank of Sergeant before receiving an honorable discharge in August of 2001.
After September 11th, 2001, Dan re-enlisted, in the KY National Guard. Dan was deployed for the initial invasion of Iraq (2002-2003), moving as far north as Baghdad. Eleven months after returning home from his third deployment, Dan re-deployed to Baghdad, Iraq leading a squad of Soldiers conducting patrols in and around the city (2004-2005). Dan deployed for a fifth time (again to Baghdad) this time leading a platoon of Soldiers as the U.S. began the drawdown (2011). During his time in the military, he rose to the rank of Command Sergeant Major where he was responsible for the welfare of over 750 Soldiers. Dan has served for over 27 years and continues to serve as a commissioned officer and the Company Commander for the 940th Military Police Company. Dan has received numerous awards throughout his career to include the Bronze Star Medal, the Meritorious Service Medal, the Army Commendation Medal with Valor device, the Combat Action Badge, among others.
Police Career
After his fourth deployment, Dan began his career as a Lexington Police Officer (2006). During his time as on the LPD he has served as a patrol officer and a detective (Major Violators Unit and Crimes Against Children). In 2013, Dan was promoted to Sergeant and has led officers on patrol as well as detectives in the Violent Crimes Unit and Special Victims Unit. In 2019, Dan was promoted to Lieutenant where he currently serves in the Bureau of Patrol.
Education
Dan received his Bachelor’ in Science from Midway University graduating Summa Cum Laude and receiving the award for the top Criminal Justice Student that year. Dan is also a graduate of the United States Sergeants Majors Academy which is an accredited academic Institution of Excellence. Dan graduated on the Commandant’s List, the highest distinction awarded for academics at that time.
Personal
Dan and his wife, Melissa have been happily married since 2009. They currently reside in Lexington with their two daughter’s. In his free time, he enjoys reading, travel, exercising, meditating, and spending time with his family.
